Tales of the Stormwind Regiment
“Marijn, you’re back!” Marijn quickly glanced around to see who called him but got surprised by a sudden hug from behind. Kainna leaned her head against his and smiled “So, how did it go?” she quickly moved to her small bag to grab a notepad and ink and quill but Marijn stopped her. “It was awfull...” Kainna smiled wider “Y-you can talk again!” Marijn nodded slightly “Yeah, I can...” Kainna pulled him along inside the command center and placed him at the table upstairs. A few privates stopped and watched the scene in curiosity, pretending to work while actually eavesdropping. Marijn sighed slightly “Please could this wait Kainna... I actually have quite important things to handle first...” Kainna perked an eyebrow “So you have something more important to do then you’re wife huhn?” She said sarcasticly with a smile. Marijn groaned annoyed and stood up “Infact, I do, Kainna... I have to do something way more important that telling you what the fuck happened out there, becouse I clearly have no fucking clue what happened myself... Now if you’ll excuse me...” With a few more groans Marijn walked down the stairs before leaving the command center. Kainna just silently watched as her husband left. She glared at the few privates who had listened to the conversation and they immediately started to walk the other way. She had just wanted to know how his mission went...
Marijn groaned and wondered if he should go back to Kainna and apologize, but explaining himself to her would take just to long, he only went to the command center to get his armor, the scrappy leather that was left after the mission in Redridge, he had just thrown away when he switched in his regular armor. For now Kainna would have to wait for a moment, if they were right, and those dark masters were already on the move, they could already be to late to save tons of vilages. For now he had to meet with the whole council group, around now they should have their regular private meeting before the council meeting of tonight.
Marijn knocked on the door. He remembered how they split up right as they entered Stormwind, Irene went to send out some scouts along with Ilyanain. Samantha went with Blaire to give her a further inspection. She seemed kind of ill after the mission when they were jogging back. Cadeamus went to speak to Samian together with Dorian. The door opened as a man glanced at him in curiousity. “Can I help you guard?” Marijn nodded slightly “Could I come in for a moment?” The man shook his head slightly “Wait for the public council meeting tonight.” The man was already about to shut the door but Marijn placed a foot between the door. “This is not for public ears.” The man frowned and rubbed his chin for a moment and glanced over his shoulder. “Fine, come in and make it quick...” Marijn smiled an unamused laugh as he entered the small house. Inside the harsh smell of tabaco. Marijn plucked his broomlike helmet of his head and glanced at the table where five people were glancing at him. Marijn smiled faintly as he walked over to the table, immediately greeted with with some annoyed noices “What did you let him in?” the man who spoke glanced at the man at the door. “He said he had something not ment for public... I figured it had to be important if he came here to tell us...” The people at the table started to groan again but this time Marijn interupted the incoming discussion. “People please, I didn’t come here to be laughed at... Now shut up, please... And listen!” The group glared at Marijn “Do you know who we are boy?” Marijn glanced at the man “I know who you are, I know you people can fire me or whatever, but I don’t care... Just sit down and listen...” With some groaned the old men finally sat down on the table.
“That is some dire news, are you absolutely positive of this?” Marijn nodded slightly. One of the six old man focused on Marijn “Could you leave us for a moment while we discuss this, in the mean time please spread the word that the council meeting of tonight is cancelled. Marijn nodded and before he knew it he stood outside again. He groaned slightly and shrugged before walking over to the command center. Once there he placed up a poster that that the council meeting was cancelled for tonight. He glanced around the building and saw how Kainna was sorting some files out in one of the bookcases. “Ohh Kainna?” She glanced around to see who it was and as soon as she saw it was him she snorted softly and turned around again before returning to work. Marijn walked over to Kainna and placed his arms around her shoulders. “I’m sorry Kai... I shoudn’t have shouted like that...” She sighed some and pointed to one of the chairs standing around. “Fine, i’ll forgive you if you tell me what’s going on... First you walk off angry and now you declare the councill meeting is cancelled, they never cancel it unless there is some emergency causing them to now be able to show up....” Marijn sighed and sat down on the chair. “Fine, i’ll tell you everything.”
And Marijn did tell her everything of those dreadfull nights out there. Except one important detail, he had no intention on sharing the news that his parents weren’t the people who he thaught they were... And neither he had the intentions of causing any worry for Kainna about him. So he decided to keep it quiet... From everyone...
“I see... So Palmore died huh... And they are planning on attacking city’s and villages troughout the Eatern Kingdoms?” Marijn slowly nodded. Kainna rubbed the back of her head “I can understand why you had to make haste and tell this to the council... What did they say?” Marijn shrugged slightly “They said they needed to discuss things over... Yet Irene has already send out multiple scouts by now, to warn villages to tighten their defences... Yet from what we saw of Lakeshire... I doubt they have little chance without an army to protect them...” Kainna frowned sligtly “What do you think they are going to do?” Marijn frowned deeply “Well, I think they are going to spread some fear by attacking the small villages and city’s spread around the Eastern Kingdoms, yet I think after that, they will group up and attack Nethergard Keep... Wich means we should send the biggest force there to counter them...” Kainna nodded slightly and sighed “Well, we shoudn’t just let them take out these villages... Did you consider sending groups?” Marijn rubbed his hand over the back of his helmet. “I considered it, surely... But I wonder if we’re going to need everyone at Nethergard Keep...” Kainna shrugged slightly “You shoudn’t think so lightly of the folks at Nethergard keep... They have quite the lot of soldiers that are trained to take out demons from the Demon gate...” Marijn glanced at the map on the table and sighed “But still, should we lose that keep we have multiple problems... Not just that demons will run rampage troughout the Blasted Lands, soon after they will take the Swamp of Sorrows and that will lead up to a straight out attack towards Stormwind... Losing at the blasted lands will doom the lands, for both Horde pigs and the Alliance...” Marijn sighed deeply.
A little while later a messenger arrived at the command center, wishing for ‘the guard with the broom helmet’ to return to the council members at once. And so Marijn set out from the command center to the small little home where the members of the council resided. Marijn knocked on the door and as it was opened from the inside he could once again nearly taste the harsh smell of the tabacco from inside the home. “Come in, come in...” Marijn nodded slightly and walked into the home before greeting the members of the council with a quick salute. “Did you have the time to discuss?” The members nodded slightly “We find that this threat it a very, serieus issue... And thus we think it’s best to give you, the guards, all forces available to wipe out this threat from the lands once and for all, i’m sure you already came up with a plan?” Marijn slowly nodded “Sort off, we think it’s mos-” Marijn was interupted with a hand gesture “Right, it’s better not to discuss this issue, you never know who is listening... Till then, we hereby promote you back to commander of the guards so you have the full potential avaiable for dealing with this threat... Normally we woudn’t do it but since you have more expirience as a guard, warfare and combat we decided that you would make the perfect commander for these dire times. Please don’t make us regret this guard...” Marijn nodded slightly and trew a quick salute as he turned around. “Ohh and one more thing.” the man started as Marijn glanced over his shoulder “Resources are no issue here, so get every able body to help fight...” Marijn nodded slightly “Sir, if you mind... What made you take this threat so serieus?” the man picked up a rolled up document and tossed it towards Marijn. “Good luck, guard.” Marijn caught the document and nodded slightly as he was escorted out.
He rolled open the document and saw that it was a report from multple small places in the Wetlands, even thou it was already a disaster out there, and flooded become the dam at Loch Modan had broken the report claimed of dark beings rising out the ground, materializing from mid air and attacking them. Marijn groaned slightly and started his walk back towards the command center. At Marijn’s best guess they had to start with sending groups along with an officer to protect the villages that would be attacked. He counted the officers in his hand as he walked along. He had Ilyanain, Cadeamus, Sador and Samian... With the recent mission they had past him it would be best to also make Irene an officer along with Samantha. Both of them had what it took to be an officer, yet they were never promoted. He thaught about Blaire for a second but shrugged his head. He remembered Samian saying something about some new corporal... He wondered is she was already promoted... Anyway, with that corporal along, he had seven officers at his disposal. Excluding himself offcourse. That means he could send the seven officers to diffrent location, all with their own army at their disposal. They way they could atleast protect seven places. And if he went with the majority of the troops to Nethergard Keep... Marijn rubbed the back of his helmet again as he went over some calculations. How annoying this was...
“Right, what did you call us all in for?” Samian groaned. After being told that he was demoted to corporal Samian had went to visit the council meeting, but he just came back even angrier. Marijn glanced around the group of eight people. Around the table sat all other officers from the regiment. Looking from the right side of Marijn there was Samantha, Irene, Cadeamus, an still angry Samian, Ilyanain, Sador, Evarea Vanpelt who was new and then back to Marijn. Marijn sighed slightly “I’m afraid I got bad news to share...” He waited for a moment as some whispers between the officers went around. “As many of you know there is a dangerous threat lurking around the kingdoms, therefore the Stormwind Regiment will be split up in groups of eight... The groups will consist of one officer and twenty privates. Excluding two groups wich will be Samian’s group, who will get fourty privates but will stay here in Stormwind, remaining their normal activities. And my group who will consist of also fourty privates.” Ilyanain frowned slightly “Why would you need more then the rest?” Marijn made a few hand movements before speaking “I’ll get to that in a moment, first i’ll adress the places each of you will go, and after deciding with Irene what will be the most tactical place to defend., we numbered out a few places. First up, the group of Cassel will head to Menethil Harbor at the Wetlands, we have suspicion the enemy will be attacking there soon so you will need to take a private boat of the Stormwind Navy...” Ilyanain slowly nodded. Marijn reached for one of the documents he had infront of him and shoved a paper to Ilyanain. “Here’s a list with all the privates that will be in you’re group, offcourse I have one for all of you.” Marijn slowly started to hand out multiple papers to the ground. For Samian two pages, and for himself two pages aswell.
“Right, continueing with our new corporal miss Vanpelt... You will head to Thelsamar with your group, you know, the small town in Loch Modan?” Evarea slowly nodded. “Right, then... Then we have the group of Fletcher, who will go to the Refuge Point all the way out in the Arathi Highlands.” Cadeamus slowly nodded. “Let’s see, then we have the group of Steelmane who will head out towards Sentinal Hills in Westfall and miss Green will go to Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands, you can expect on some assist from the dwarves there should things start happening.” Samantha nodded and glanced at the map in the middle of the table. So far away from Stormwind... “And last we have the group of miss Silversong who will go to Darkshire in the Ghostlands, i’m sure you’ve been there before?” Irene nodded “Yeah, i’m sure the guards there will be of some assistance.” Marijn nodded slightly. “Since we have no idea how strong our enemy’s really are, I have decided to not underestimate them. So I will ask the Blades for Hire for assistance. They should prove loyal allies for the right price...” Cadeamus frowned before knocking his hand on the table “You want to ask them for help? Are we really that desperate that we ask some second hand mercanary’s for help?” Marijn slowly nodded “Infact, we are...” Cadeamus sat back down with some mumbeling. “Since time is of the essence I will have everyone ready to depart tomorrow morning. Inform you’re privates and sleep well... We will need it.” Marijn folded up the last papers he had infront of him and shoved them into his bag. “This meeting is over, good luck to all of you.”
Marijn sighed shortly and walked out the command center. Even thou he had to warn the fourty privates that they had to move out tomorrow, there was one more thing he had to do before then. He had to go and meet up with the new leader of the Blades for Hire, an old friend trough many days of suffering together. Tyriez Greyson, former member of the Blazing Shields, now leader of one of the largest mercenary guilds there is to find. And there was only one place you needed to look to find them, the bar called Pig and Whistle. Home of the Blades for Hire, while you can get a simple drink there it isn’t just a simple bar. People go there to find the Blades for all kinds of things. What all those things were Marijn decided to ignore for now. He just needed more able men to help him fight... He stopped walking and glanced up at the old tavern. In the evening it’s crowded with people, yet during the day it’s nearly abondened. Or so it seems. Marijn walked up to the door and frowned. The door was closed, were they closed or maybe not available? Marijn knocked loudly on the door with his plated fist. “Anyone in there?” he yelled, hoping someone would hear him. It was strange, the door was nearly never closed. “Uhmm... Yeah, i’ll be right there!” a girly voice sounded from inside. Marijn sighed and patiently waited
The door shoved open as Marijn glanced inside. An odd smell in the air. Marijn glanced at the girl who opened the door. Dark blondish hair till the shoulders. And a pleasant smile on her face. From earlier visits he knew it was the girl who worked behind the bar. She want by the name Ash or something. “Come on in, sir.” she spoke gently. Marijn shrugged slightly and walked into the bar. The door behind him shut close by the young girl. He could see multiple men and women around the place, upstairs leaning over the banister and downstairs by the tables. Nearly all of them wearing a black tabard with a white sword, the sign of the Blades for Hire. He could feel the eyes of the whole room staring at him. He sniffed slightly and smelt an distant but familiar smell. “What can we help you with, guard?” the girl asked politely. “I’m here to see sir Greyson, tell him it’s very important.” Someone in the back shoved away to a chamber that led to the basement. “My, what could be so important you would come here alone asking for our leader?” the girl asked with a smile on her lips. “Just get him will you...” A figure from the back slowly walked forward. Rough black hair till just past his ears and multiple scars crossing his face. He wore black armor along with the black tabard with the white blade. On his shoulders large black shoulderpads with spikes to top it off. From his belt hung two long swords, both seemingly that they had quite some usage. “Well, well... Silverstorm what are you doing here!?” the man spoke, as he walked closer. Marijn walked further to the middle to greet the man. “Long time no see Greyson, unfortunately I come in with bad news, would you mind if we talk in private?” Tyriez slowly shook his head and made some hand signals as everyone in the room slowly started to leave. After a while it was just the two of them. “Well Silverstorm, what brings you here?” Marijn smiled faintly as he sat down on a table along with Tyriez. “Well, I don’t know if you’ve heart but... There’s a incredebly dangerous group of warlocks roaming around the Eastern Kingdoms...” Tyriez frowned “I’m aware of them, multiple of my men has become victim of them, they were staying in Lakeshire, we found them death a little white later...” Marijn frowned slightly “Well, I’m here to do buisness with you.” Tyries frowned “Ohh?” Marijn nodded slightly “How many men do you have within the Blades of Hire?” Tyriez rubbes his chin for a moment “About eighty or more... Why?” Marijn smiled faintly “I would like to hire you’re whole group.” Tyriez slowly perked an eyebrow “Really?” Marijn quickly nodded “Money is of no issue here...” Tyriez slowly shrugged “Well, what would you need us all for?” Marijn smiled and pulled out a map with locations.
“Right...” Tyriez said “So to make things clear, you want me to send 10 man to Menethil Harbor, Thelsamar, Refuge Point, Sentinal Hill, Aerie Peak and Darkshire... And to top it off you want the rest of my forces at you’re disposal at Nethergard Keep, along with me to lead them?” Marijn nodded slightly. “Well, it’s going to cost you...” Marijn smiled widely “Half first, half after?” Tyriez grimaced “Like the good old days, eh?”
Later that day, Marijn had finally contacted all of his fourty privates that they would leave for Nethergard Keep in the morning. He mumbled softly to himself “One thing left to do...” He started to walk from the command center again. There was only one thing to do before he could get his midnight rest for tomorrow. He had to contact the Disciples of Light. He walked past the Pig and Whistle and saw people running all over the place. It seemed like they were preparing for departure already, once they smelled money they woudn’t give it a chance to miss it. No, once they saw money they grabbed on to it and never let go. Marijn smirked slightly and continued. He wondered if the Disciples of Light would come aswell, after all, shadow magic of this kind was something the Disciples weren’t fond of.
Marijn knocked on the wooden door and frowned as the second his plated fist hit the door, the door opened and a man in late thirthy’s stood there. “Good evening guard, can I help you?” Marijn nodded slightly “Could I speak sir Ironhand?” the man perked an eyebrow “What for?” Marijn rubbed the back of his helmet “I need to speak about certain events happening troughout the lands, it’s quite important.” The man nodded slightly and pushes the door close. Marijn frowned and wondered, did the man really just leave him out here, or was the man going to get his leader? Pherhaps he should just knock again and hope someone else will open. He moved his fist up to knock but placed it down again as the door slowly slided open again. This time instead of the reasonably old man stood a man with rough brown hair till the shoulders. On his face a just as rough mustace and a small brown beard. The man smiled faintly as he saw the guest. Over his clothes a tabard with the weird symbol of the Disciples. “Silverstorm, what are you doing here?!” Marijn smiled, in one day he had met two of his old friends from the Blazing Shields, friends wich he had crossed the battleground with, people he trusted with his life back then. “Ironhand, it’s good to see you.” Marijn hold out a hand and the man facing him grabbed it and shook it wildly. “Please, come on in.” Galedric said with a long smile on his face.
Marijn sat down on a round wooden table with on the other side his old pal, Galedric Ironhand. One of the few, together with Tyriez Greyson and Marijn, old Shield members. “So, how is the regiment coming along Silverstorm?” Marijn smirked faintly “It’s going just fine, the regular guard things going on, you know, muggings, theft, death threats, bar fights, rape, murder... We take care of the same nasty buisness as we used to.” Both of them smiled for a second. “Anyway, i’m not here for just friendly talks...” Galedric smirked “I figured that much.” Marijn nodded sternly. “Well, I don’t know if you have heard about the attacks around the kingdom?” Galedric frowned “I’ve heard, yes.” Marijn sighed sadly “Well, it’s about that... A few days ago we went to find out about some mage who had been hiring people to attack us and then in the end attacked us himself. We kind of found what we were looking for, I guess... But let’s not go into much details... The point is, they are panning assaults all over the land, on diffrent places at diffrent times... I wondered, if you and the Discipless would help us defend the small city’s and villages.” Galedric frowned slightly “How many man would you need for this?” Marijn rubbed his chin for abit and frowned. “How many man do you have at your disposal?” The man rubbed his rough beard as he thaught “About fourty man I guess...” Marijn nodded slightly “Sounds perfect...”
“Right, so you want me to send five man to each of these places, Menethil Harbor, Thelsamar, Refuge Point, Sentinal Hill, Aerie Peak and Darkshire. And you want me and ten men at Nethergard Keep?” Marijn nodded slightly “Indeed.” Galedric smiled widely “Consider it done, i’ll contact them tonight that we’ll move out tomorrow afternoon.” Marijn smiled widely “Thank you Ironhand.” The man smirked widely “I don’t have much right to decline an invatation to save the kingdoms, eh?” Marijn smiled “You can keep the maps here, explain to your officers on what they need to look out for and all, alright?” Galedric smiled “Will do Silverstorm, will do.” Marijn slowly stood up from his chair at the table and glanced around the place. It didn’t look like all to much, some wooden bookcases and some other things. “I’ll be going then, meet you in two days at Nethergard Keep, Ironhand.” The man waved a lame goodbye and smirked “See you, Silverstorm.”
The next day was very chaotic, privates running around the place trying to find wich group they were on and wich way they had to go. Yet after a decent amount of delay the groups moved out the city and with it, a lot of people glanced along the side to see where the guards were going. Some cheered and prayed for a safe return of the guards. Others cheered that they were leaving, but hoped for no return at all. It was a decent sight to see the regiment so well organized. The way they walked was five man next to each other and multiple rows behind each other. Some privates even carried an regimental flag and others had one tied to their already large backpack. Along with the soldiers there were a few horses, thou most of them were used as packing mules with no other purpose as to carry all the heavy equipments along. They also had a few free horses, ment for if they should find injured people. Thou it was mostly kept for when the other horses would get tired and they had to change between the weight. And so the regiment moved out from the city, preparing for war.
